There is a particular stretch of East Hollywood where the grit never fully gave way to polish, where dive bars and recording studios still outnumber juice shops, and where a certain nocturnal energy persists long after the rest of the city goes quiet. Gold-Diggers Hotel occupies this territory with full commitment. Built into a converted 1925 building on Santa Monica Boulevard, the property is equal parts boutique hotel, professional recording studio, and live music venue, a combination that sounds improbable until you walk through the door and realize it could not function any other way.
The hotel offers just eleven rooms, each designed with a moody, maximalist sensibility that draws from rock and roll history without descending into costume. Deep jewel tones, vintage furnishings, velvet textures, and curated vinyl collections give each space its own personality. Rooms are intimate rather than sprawling, favoring character over square footage. Some feature turntables and record collections. The scale is deliberately small, creating the feeling of staying in a private apartment above a legendary club rather than checking into a conventional hotel. There is no lobby in the traditional sense, no concierge desk softening your arrival. You are simply in it from the moment you step inside.
Downstairs, Gold-Diggers operates as a full-service bar, restaurant, and live music venue. The bar program leans toward craft cocktails and natural wines, served in a dim, amber-lit room where the crowd skews toward musicians, producers, and the people who orbit them. Live performances happen regularly, ranging from emerging artists to unannounced sets by established acts. The energy is genuine rather than curated for spectacle. Adjacent to the venue, two professional recording studios are available for guest use, fully equipped and engineered to industry standards. This is not a novelty amenity. Artists have tracked albums here. The studios operate as a working creative space, and hotel guests can book sessions, blurring the line between travel and making something.
The surrounding neighborhood reinforces the property's identity. East Hollywood and the corridor stretching toward Silver Lake offer late-night taco stands, independent bookshops, vintage stores, and a creative community that has defined this part of Los Angeles for decades. Gold-Diggers does not attempt to distance itself from its surroundings. It is deeply embedded in them, drawing its energy from the block rather than shielding guests from it.
What stays with you after Gold-Diggers is the compression of experience. Eating, drinking, listening, recording, sleeping all happen within a few thousand square feet, layered on top of one another in a building that has been absorbing sound and smoke and late nights for nearly a century. It is a hotel for people who want to be close to something happening, or perhaps to be the ones making it happen.

What we love about this stay
Gold-Diggers doesn't polish away the texture of the city — it lets East Hollywood seep into every surface, every worn plank and exposed brick wall catching afternoon light through steel-framed windows. There's an intentional roughness to the design that feels earned rather than styled, like a room that's been lived in by people with taste and no interest in pretending. The live music venue at its core dissolves the line between guest and local so completely that you stop tracking which you are. Staff recommendations arrive unscripted — a taco stand, a jazz night nearby — offered with the ease of someone sharing their own neighborhood. You leave carrying something unplanned.

I stayed here for a night with my boyfriend and it was wonderful! I can’t speak for the noise since there was a private event the night we stayed and we were out until 2 anyway. We were provided with ear plugs and a white noise machine, which I thought was super considerate. People who complain about the noise are kind of silly, just stay somewhere else. It is listed everywhere that it is also a bar. Also, loved the amenities, truly one of the most unique hotel stays I’ve had. Small detail but I appreciated the cotton pads and swabs, I don’t typically find those in hotels. The woman who checked us in was super nice and hospitable. Overall, amazing experience and I would stay again!

This hotel is so special! You'd never know it the unassuming entrance in what seems like a "sketchy" neighborhood (my cab driver insisted on making sure I got in). be assured that the place is extremely safe. Guests get entry codes rather than keys. I am a woman traveling solo and never once was nervous. The bar/music venue is on par with anything in town or anywhere, but I felt like I had gotten to take part in a quintessential Los Angeles hit music gig. The room! I had the smallest room, but it is not cramped The two drink tokens that they give you were extremely generous. bottled water is free. The coffee bags are really good. Comfortable bed. Yes, you will hear the music, or at least the beat, thumping up to your room even on the very top floor. I used the Sonos system and put on some sleep music when it got to be too much. It's really good here! Can't wait to come back.

If you want a quintessential LA music scene experience, stay at Gold-Diggers. From the check-in process to the room theming, the speaker set-up to the live acts and DJs every night, it's the perfect combination of luxury, tech, and music that makes you want to come back again and again. (Only note is that I'm the WORST and forgot to take the album home 😭!)

Incredible design and feels like you've unearthed this small little secret tucked away in E.Hollywood. Complete with a legendary music recording studio attached at the back that Leon Bridges just recorded his new record at. Oh and they totally deliver on Tablet+ perks (upgraded room, bottle of wine, record, tote bag, and two drinks in the awesome bar downstairs).

are tired of overpriced LA hotels that look like you are staying with a rich aunt in the suburbs... then this is the place for you. like the lower east side in NYC in the day the bar is legit, fun and full of cool kids. Upstairs are the rooms all decked in good taste vintage with a record player and a fancy bathroom to make your gf happy. It put me at peace with my surroundings. Alive.
