The first thing you notice is the light. It arrives differently this far east on Long Island, unfiltered and generous, catching the white facades and weathered wood of Hero Beach Club like something out of a mid-century photograph. Set directly on the sand in Montauk, the property feels less like a traditional hotel and more like a stylish friend's beach house, one with impeccable taste and just enough rooms for the people you actually want around.
The accommodations span a collection of thoughtfully appointed rooms, suites, and bungalows, each designed with a pared-back coastal sensibility that favors natural textures, clean lines, and ocean-facing windows. Whitewashed walls, linen bedding, and warm wood floors anchor the interiors, while private patios and decks extend living space toward the beach. Some rooms open directly onto the sand, collapsing the distance between sleep and surf to almost nothing. The overall design ethos leans into Montauk's rugged simplicity rather than fighting against it, creating spaces that feel effortlessly at home in their surroundings.
Days here organize themselves around the property's beachfront pool and the Atlantic just beyond it. The pool deck serves as the social heart of Hero Beach Club, where lounge chairs line up against a backdrop of dune grass and open sky. A food and beverage program keeps things appropriately casual, with fresh, beach-ready fare and cocktails that don't overthink themselves. The atmosphere is relaxed and communal, the kind of place where conversations start easily between strangers and sunset becomes a shared event. Surfboards, paddleboards, and beach cruisers are part of the offering, reinforcing a spirit of active, salt-sprayed leisure rather than passive luxury.
Montauk itself occupies a singular position at the far tip of the South Fork, where the Hamptons' manicured polish gives way to something wilder and less self-conscious. Fishing villages, lighthouse trails, and farm stands define the surrounding landscape, and the town's restaurants and bars carry an unpretentious energy that rewards exploration. Hero Beach Club sits comfortably within this context, borrowing Montauk's laid-back identity without trying to elevate it beyond recognition. What stays with you is not a single grand gesture but the accumulation of small, well-considered ones: the warmth of bare feet on a sun-heated deck, the sound of waves just outside your door, the way an afternoon can stretch without agenda until the sky turns pink and the day simply, quietly, resolves itself.

What we love about this stay
Hero Beach Club has that rare quality of feeling like it belongs exactly where it is — right on the sand in Montauk, where the Atlantic isn't background noise but the entire point. It's intimate rather than sprawling, with ocean-view rooms that lean into understated nautical details instead of overdesigned coastal theatrics. There's a directness to the place: the pool mirrors the sky, the balconies face the water, and the whole property seems oriented toward one honest relationship with the shoreline. It suits the kind of traveler who wants proximity to the sea without pretense — someone content to let the day unspool between the pool, the beach just steps away, and the quiet privacy of their own room. Montauk's rugged, unhurried character seeps into the mood here, and that's what stays with you.

This hotel is just perfect. From its location just minutes away from town and short walk out back to the beach you have all Montauk has to offer available. Highly recommend this hotel for your Montauk vacation!

This is an older motel that seems to have been flipped. Somethings were great and others not so great. The bathroom setup is weird so unless you’re okay with no privacy, you won’t like it. The location was great because the beach was right there and beautiful. But the hotel is right on Hwy 27 so you’re hearing a bit of traffic. Also, there’s noise from the rooms above if you’re on the main floor. The outdoor patio area was really relaxing. There are showers and washrooms in the basement so you can keep the beach sand out of your room. There are many shops and attractions close by. The price was a little high but cheaper than others close by.

Everything true to pictures and fair price. Giving 2 stars however, as a strange incident occurred where just after me, a woman, and my mother visibly left our hotel room to go eat we received a call at 4:45 pm from male reception staff asking if they could take a picture from the view from our room. We said no as we found this very odd. We were pretty sure the room next to us w/ a similar view was vacant and it wasn’t like it was sunset yet or anything so we do not understand this request for someone who regularly works there. We didn’t know if they wanted to check us out, steal something, put cameras in, or make it easier to break in later on. It’s just common sense in 2024 that this felt really predatory towards two women alone in a somewhat middle of nowhere place during a slow time (middle of the week). We came back and offered to let staff take picture in case we misunderstood the culture there as we are city folk, but they said they’d do it tomorrow. Balcony door was unlocked when we came back when we are pretty sure we locked it. Staff also did not seem apologetic that the request offended us, which is not very professional for a room that was almost $900/night. Really gave us the creeps and I hope management teaches staff better. I could have not posted this, but if this is a legitimate safety issue it should be out there.

Worst hotel experience - most expensive rate We chose this hotel based on amenities promised and location. The amenities fell extremely short. The proximity to the beach was nice but the property was not a convenient walk to the town. There is a busy highway section between the hotel and town with no walking path for the initial portion. It was also impossible to safely bike from the hotel. The bikes the hotel provided were in disrepair. The tires were low on air and the seats were not adjustable. They were very old and difficult to ride. The welcome from the desk staff was nonexistent. Sageil who runs the front desk was very rude during the entire visit. She offered no helpful information and seemed bothered by her tasks at the hotel always doling them out to the junior staff members. The breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, oatmeal cups and muffins. Very little variety and quite disappointing. The welcome drink is either a tap wine rose or tap beer. All of these are begrudgingly provided. The bar is small and usually not staffed. The yoga classes which were promised were not inclusive to guests. The instructors invited many friends who were not hotel guests leaving no space for hotel guests. We tried to join both days and were turned away. The room was clean but small. Our room had a broken toilet that made a piercing whistle sound each time it flushed. The bed has sharp wooden corners that bruised our shins each time we walked by. The beds were average but the pillows hard and flat. The noise Saturday night from the neighboring rooms was substantial. At no point was there a manager present to welcome us or check on our visit. There was a junior staff member from the Czech Republic who was very helpful and actually showed us around the property when the check in staff failed to do so. The beach umbrella and chair service was excellent. But note this is not a private beach so during the high season it will be crowded. All in all a huge disappointment for $1350 per night!

Overpriced - looks like a roadside motel that was slightly upgraded with close access to a public beach. Poor communication and service by staff for the price range. They have limited parking for guests, part of the parking that looks like private hotel parking is apparently public parking. And the police gives out significant fines for parking in front of the hotel. We got a fine for parking across the hotel at night and was given zero heads up by the staff even though it seems quite necessary. Bad experience, I don’t recommend.
