Built in 1889 at the height of the Colorado silver boom, Hotel Jerome, An Auberge Resort stands at the corner of Main and Mill streets in downtown Aspen with the kind of presence that only 135 years of continuous operation can produce. The facade is unmistakable: red brick and sandstone, arched windows, and a stature that announces itself as the centerpiece of a town that has reinvented itself several times over. Inside, the lobby sets the register immediately. Original architectural bones meet a layered, richly colored interior where Victorian-era grandeur has been thoughtfully updated without losing its essential character. Antique fixtures share space with contemporary art, custom furnishings, and textiles that feel collected rather than curated.
The hotel's 99 guest rooms and suites balance period detail with genuine comfort. Expect oversized soaking tubs, plush bedding, and windows that frame either the bustle of downtown Aspen or the surrounding mountain panorama. The scale of the rooms feels generous, a reminder that this building was conceived during an era of architectural ambition. For guests seeking more space, the signature suites offer living areas with fireplaces and views that pull the Rockies closer.
Dining and drinking at Hotel Jerome are threaded into the town's social fabric. Prospect is the hotel's signature restaurant, serving refined mountain cuisine rooted in Colorado's seasonal bounty. The menu moves between locally sourced game, fresh seafood, and produce-driven plates presented with a level of polish that rewards a lingering dinner. The Living Room, the hotel's atmospheric lobby bar, is arguably Aspen's most storied gathering space. Locals and visitors converge beneath pressed-tin ceilings for craft cocktails, après-ski drinks, and the particular energy that comes from a room with well over a century of stories embedded in its walls. In warmer months, the hotel's heated outdoor pool and terrace become a social anchor of their own, ringed by mountain views and attended by poolside dining and drinks.
The Auberge Spa offers treatments designed around the alpine environment, with recovery-focused therapies and high-altitude wellness rituals. A modern fitness center rounds out the wellness offerings, while the hotel's concierge team connects guests with Aspen's four mountains for skiing, as well as hiking, fly-fishing, and cultural programming through the Aspen Music Festival, Aspen Ideas Festival, and the town's gallery scene. The property sits within walking distance of virtually everything that defines downtown Aspen, from its independent boutiques and restaurants to the Wheeler Opera House and the Aspen Art Museum.
What endures about Hotel Jerome is the way it holds its history without becoming a museum piece. This is a building that has outlived silver fortunes, ski booms, and cultural reinventions, and the result is a property that feels both deeply rooted and thoroughly alive. You leave with the sense that the hotel does not simply sit in Aspen. It is, in many ways, the room where Aspen happens.

What we love about this stay
Hotel Jerome carries something most luxury properties can't manufacture — a genuine sense of having been somewhere, of having hosted decades of Aspen's ski culture and social history within its walls. You feel it in the weight of the place, the way it holds both grandeur and warmth without tipping into pretension. The 93 rooms feel considered rather than formulaic, and the three restaurants speak to a kitchen that takes its sourcing seriously. What stays with you isn't any single amenity but the atmosphere of a hotel that belongs deeply to its town, one where the Rockies aren't just a backdrop but the entire reason the story exists.

This is truly one of the most stunning properties we have ever visited. The location is amazing, right in the middle of charming Aspen, the interior was decorated for the holidays & was just stunning. We stayed in the original part of the hotel which was perfect! I can’t speak to the newer rooms, but the huge windows, large room size and furnishings were fine indeed. We cannot wait to return ❤️
