The building arrived long before the hotel did. Built in 1861 as an orphanage by the Daughters of Charity, the structure on the corner of Magazine Street and Race Street has lived many lives across the Lower Garden District. Now it stands as Hotel Saint Vincent, a 75-room property that honors the weight of its architecture while filling its halls with a distinctly contemporary energy. The restoration is meticulous but never precious. Original terrazzo floors, exposed brick, and ecclesiastical arches share space with bold pattern, saturated color, and carefully sourced vintage furnishings. The result is a property that feels layered rather than designed, as though each room carries its own quiet history.
Accommodations range from intimate rooms to generous suites, each furnished with custom pieces and a palette that shifts between moody jewel tones and sunlit warmth. Details vary from room to room, giving each space a sense of individuality rare in a hotel of this scale. Some feature original transom windows, others open onto iron-laced balconies overlooking Magazine Street. Throughout the property, the Chapel Club serves as the social anchor, a members-style bar set inside the original chapel space, where stained glass filters light across cocktails and evening conversation. San Lorenzo, the hotel's Italian restaurant, occupies a ground-floor dining room with checkerboard floors and an open, convivial atmosphere rooted in Southern Italian cooking. The Paradise Lounge provides a more relaxed setting for drinks, while Elizabeth Street Café brings Vietnamese-inspired coffee and baked goods to the lobby level, offering a lighter counterpoint to the property's more spirited venues.
Outdoors, the courtyard pool is the heart of daytime life at Hotel Saint Vincent. Framed by the building's historic façade and lined with lounge seating, it feels both secluded and social, a gathering place that draws guests out of their rooms and into the property's communal rhythm. The surrounding Lower Garden District provides easy access to the broader texture of New Orleans, from the oak-canopied residential streets nearby to the galleries, restaurants, and music venues that line Magazine Street in both directions. The French Quarter, Garden District, and Warehouse District are all within close reach, but the hotel's own neighborhood carries enough character to hold your attention on its own.
What lingers about Hotel Saint Vincent is the way it balances grandeur with looseness. There is reverence in the restoration and irreverence in the cocktail menu, devotion in the architectural details and ease in the way guests drift between pool, chapel bar, and sidewalk café. It is a hotel that understands New Orleans not as a backdrop but as a collaborator, shaping every room, every menu, every late-night conversation beneath stained glass.

What we love about this stay
There's a particular kind of confidence in a building that's stood since 1861 and still knows exactly what it's doing. Hotel Saint Vincent wears its history without performing it — the restoration feels less like preservation and more like a sharp, unhurried conversation between eras. You sense it in the custom wallpaper, the generous dressing areas, the way the rooms feel designed for lingering rather than just sleeping. The dining pulls off something rare: an Italian restaurant and a French-Vietnamese café coexisting under the same roof without either feeling like an afterthought. And the Chapel Club, reserved for guests, shifts its personality from day to night in a way that mirrors the city itself. That Saltillo-tiled pool tucked within historic brick walls captures something essential about this corner of New Orleans — indulgence held within structure, warmth framed by something enduring.

This property is outstanding in location, service, food & amenities. Keep in mind it is an old hotel with a boutique aviance so do not expect a very modern room. It is clean, neat & comfortable & the little outside deck overlooking the Plaza & pool was so inviting especially at night. Take a glass a wine out & relax or have breakfast on the deck in the am - so lovely. We highly recommend.

Had a dreamy stay at Hotel Saint Vincent, I about cried when I had to leave. Yeh property is absolutely beautiful, so relaxing and interesting. I enjoyed every moment at the pool, it was so clean and well maintained, the seating was so comfortable and the temperature was perfect. Special mention to the staff, every person was so warm and welcoming. The pool attendant went above and beyond to ensure we had the perfect stay, she was so kind and inviting it made the stay just so incredibly special. The food was incredible, the Italian margarita is maybe my new favourite drink. I will dream about my perfect stay until I am so fortunate as to return again.

Hotel Saint Vincent is one of my favorite places in New Orleans. The staff is some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met and I will definitely be returning. I am from New Orleans and hotel Saint Vincent is a beautiful representation of my city. Sarah, the front desk manager is a true gem. She goes out of her way to help and her energy and smile is contagious. Jamaul the bell man was always willing to help and provide the best service. Marie in the gift shop was so knowledgeable about the products and her style is impeccable. I can’t wait to be back and hug all of them!

My boyfriend and I recently had dinner at Hotel St. Vincent and all I can say is WOW! The vibe in the restaurant is perfection. The food was absolutely delicious, the drinks were tasty and to make things even better, we had an incredible server; Young Mike. He was super knowledgeable about the food and made great recommendations! Plus, he was so fun and hospitable it really caught us by surprise.I can’t recommend this place enough, especially for a romantic dinner.

This was my 3rd stay at this wonderful hotel and we fell even more in love with it. Not only is the property gorgeous and perfectly located but the STAFF… They were friendly, helpful and made us feel right at home. We were dropping our daughter off at Tulane so we were emotional and busy - and the staff embraced us like we were family friends. Toi, Eddy, Karen, Chase…thank you all. Even the ghosts were friendly 😜! The room was gorgeous. The food was great. The property was clean and impeccably designed. We will definitely be back.
