The Annex
There are hotels that announce themselves, and there are those that simply welcome you in. The Annex belongs to the latter. Intimate in scale and deliberate in detail, the property carries the warmth of a place designed not to impress but to hold your attention, gently and without pretense. The architecture feels considered rather than curated, with interiors that balance clean lines and natural textures in a way that reads as both modern and lived-in. From the moment you step inside, there is a sense that someone thought carefully about how a room should feel at different hours of the day.
The accommodations at The Annex are designed with a focus on comfort that doesn't announce itself. Rooms are thoughtfully appointed with quality linens, warm lighting, and a material palette that favors wood, stone, and soft neutrals. The layouts feel generous without excess, each space arranged to encourage both rest and a kind of unhurried presence. Common areas throughout the property serve as natural gathering points, blending the intimacy of a private residence with the polish of a boutique hotel. Whether you find yourself settling into a reading corner or lingering over morning coffee in a shared lounge, the spaces invite you to slow your rhythm.
The Annex takes a restrained but purposeful approach to its guest experience. Rather than layering on amenities for their own sake, the property focuses on the essentials done exceptionally well. Mornings here have their own quiet cadence, and the overall atmosphere rewards those who prefer texture over spectacle. The surrounding area provides its own layer of interest, offering the kind of discovery that benefits from a well-placed home base.
What lingers after a stay at The Annex is not a single defining moment but a cumulative feeling. It is the kind of property that earns loyalty not through grand gestures but through a steady, almost instinctive understanding of what makes a guest want to return. The details are specific enough to feel personal, and the overall impression is one of care that never tips into performance. You leave lighter than you arrived, already thinking about the next time.

What we love about this stay
What strikes you first about The Annex is the quiet confidence of the place — it doesn't announce itself so much as settle around you. Toronto hums just beyond the doors, but inside, the lobby dissolves into garden spaces where leaves rustle and city birds carry on their own unhurried conversations. It's that rare urban property where greenery isn't decorative but atmospheric, shaping the mood of your entire stay. Each room has its own personality, individually decorated in a way that avoids the copy-paste sameness of most boutique hotels, with wide windows that pull the skyline in close. The dining feels rooted in the city's culinary energy rather than trying to exist apart from it, and the lounges have a lived-in warmth that invites lingering. What stays with you isn't any single detail — it's the cumulative sense that someone thought carefully about how calm should feel in the middle of a city that never quite stops moving.

The Annex is like if you went to stay with a friend who has a place in a really cool part of Toronto and has great taste in decor. The king size bed is more like a platform with a futon. There is a long shelf that serves as a table. There are more than ample electric outlets for our gazillion devices. The luxury toiletries come in large bottles, the bathroom has double shower heads. Even though the hotel has a bar next to it and downstairs, the sound proofing was good enough that we heard nothing in our 2nd floor room. Breakfast was included with a barista making our coffee in the morning. The only downside is there is no elevator so my husband had to lug our 40 lb suitcase up a flight of stairs. Not a deal-breaker - but it might be something to consider if you are planning to stay here. Scott Pilgrim vs the World is set in the Annex neighborhood, so my husband totally geeked out over the location. We felt like we were having a local experience. Everything is within walking distance that for the first couple of days we didn’t even get on to public transport.

My friend and I attended to the Kula Shaker concert in Lee's Palace last september 11th and to stay at The Annex was one of our best decisions during this trip. The hotel is comfortable, quiet, spacious and lovely. The staff is so helpful and friendly. They helped us with our necessities and they always had the best disposition. The hotel is so well located to attend to the concert but it was a perfecto location to get almost everywhere. The surroundings of the hotel are so lovely and lively. There are lots of options to eat too. The bed was so comfy, the showere worked perfectly and the water was warm, just as I needed it to be. They even have vinyl records and a records player to enjoy the music, we were so happy with that touch! I think that the breakfast options could be a little wider, but it was a delicious way to start the day. I'd love to come back to stay there again. Thank you for making our stay in Toronto so lovely.

Tucked away in the Annex neighborhood, is a hotel that is truly representative of the essence and embodiment of the Downtown District in Toronto. Proximity to attractions such as the Royal Ontario Museum, the St Lawrence Market and Rogers Centre made exploring the area easy and inviting. The Annex is a boutique hotel has everything you need; privacy, excellent room accoutrements (top shelf comfort for a good night’s sleep), a turntable with selected music, bluetooth speaker, an iPad with Netflix access, secure entry, a wine bar and patio and the concierge service is exceptional. I needed to obtain something very specific and they went the distance, and then some, to find and procure the item. Each morning we started the day with tasty pastries and some of the best coffee anywhere. The whole vibe here is one of comfort and care. The next time I am in Toronto I will definitely stay with the people and scene we found at The Annex.

Fantastic boutique hotel and the staff are awesome! Great room, very clean and functional, and the shower is amazing!! No TV in my room and at first I was a bit disappointed...but I picked up one of the books in the room and I will finish the novel on my 3rd night! Have 2 more nights to try more of the terrific restaurants on Bloor street. Thanks to Lyian for working her magic to book my stay on 5 days short notice! I will definitely stay here next year when I am in town for PDAC conference. Cheers, G
